PURPOSE
The Grant Writer will be responsible for the preparation of grant proposals, and funding applications to government agencies and private foundations in the areas specifically related to cultural grants and education grants. Incumbent will assist the Director in grant resource planning, strategic planning, and technical writing to support the Tribe.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
Reports To: Grants & Resources Director
Supervises: N/A
Liaison To: Program managers of the Tribe
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Research funding opportunities and develop responses following specific grant application requirements
• Communicate with the finance department, program managers and staff to gather necessary and accurate information for development of grant proposals
• Develop grant budgets with the Grants & Resources Director
• Write and edit grant narratives which reflect the highest professional presentation of materials
• Coordinate with staff for grant writing and participate in grant application development team meetings
• Work closely with the Grants & Resource Director and program staff to transform the Tribe’s vision and ideas into funded proposals
• Complete proposals in a timely manner to allow sufficient time for proofing and quality review
• Ensure policies and legal requirements are followed as outlined in grant award letters
• Assist the Grants & Resources Director in developing long-term funding strategies and sustainability plans for the Tribe’s social enterprises
• Perform other duties as assigned

NECESSARY SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
• Effective written and verbal communication as appropriate for the needs of the audience
• Ability to read, analyze, and explain information in grant applications
• Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Excellent organizational and time management skills
• Ability to work on multiple projects consecutively within different grant portals and meet deadlines
• Ability to gather, analyze and evaluate data
• Proficiency in MS Office suite of programs
• Ability to read and comprehend US Code of Federal Regulations
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (education, experience, skills)
• Associates Degree
• 4 years of grant writing experience, 2 of which must be in the cultural preservation or education grant writing field. (Please clearly define this qualification on resume and/or cover letter.)
• 2 years of supervisory experience
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (education, experience, skills)
• Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Media, or related field
• 5 years’ experience in grant writing, related to cultural preservation and education fields
• Familiarity with 2 CFR 200 - UNIFORM ADMINISTRATIVE REQUIREMENTS, COST PRINCIPLES, AND AUDIT REQUIREMENTS FOR FEDERAL AWARDS
UNUSUAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OR RESTRICTIONS
The majority of work is performed in a professional office setting and is generally sedentary, requiring routine walking, standing, bending, and carrying of items weighing less than 40 lbs. Travel on small aircraft or ferry may be required.
